The guide
What is local SEO?
Local SEO helps people near you find your business when they search. Here is what it is, why it matters and how to start.
Short answer: local SEO is improving your website and online listings so your business shows up when people search for what you offer in or near a place. It matters most for businesses people visit in person, such as salons, barbershops, restaurants and local shops.
Why local SEO matters
People who search for something nearby, like a barbershop or a restaurant in their area, are often ready to visit or buy. If your business does not appear, those customers go to a competitor. Many of these searches happen on a phone, so a fast, mobile-friendly site matters as much as the listing itself.
How Google decides local results
Google says local results depend mainly on three things: relevance (how well your business matches the search), distance (how close you are to the person searching) and prominence (how well known and trusted your business is). You cannot change distance, but you can improve the other two.
The parts of local SEO
- Google Business Profile. Your listing in Google Search and Maps. Claim it and keep it complete and accurate.
- Your website. A clear page for each service, your service area, opening hours and LocalBusiness structured data.
- Consistent details. Your business name, address and phone number should match everywhere they appear.
- Reviews. Genuine reviews from real customers, with replies from you.
- Helpful content. Short, direct answers to the questions local customers ask.
How to rank your business on Google in the Philippines
- Make sure your site can be crawled and your important pages are indexed.
- Claim and complete your Google Business Profile, with the right category, hours and photos.
- Give each service its own page, and say where you work.
- Keep your name, address and phone number identical across your site and listings.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data that matches what is visible on the page.
- Make the site fast and easy to use on a phone.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and reply to them.
- Check Search Console each month and track calls, bookings and messages.
Common mistakes
- Different business details in different places.
- One page that tries to cover every service.
- An unclaimed or half-finished business profile.
- Fake reviews or stuffing keywords into your business name. Both break Google’s rules.
- Blocking search engines by accident in robots.txt or with noindex tags.

Frequently asked questions
What is local SEO?
Local SEO is improving your website and online listings so your business appears when people search for what you offer in or near a place, such as on Google Search and Google Maps.
Is local SEO different from regular SEO?
It builds on the same foundation but adds local signals: a Google Business Profile, consistent business details, LocalBusiness markup and reviews. Google weighs relevance, distance and prominence.
Do I need a website for local SEO?
A Google Business Profile helps, but a website gives you more control and more pages that can appear in search. Most businesses do better with both.
How long does local SEO take?
Technical fixes can be picked up within days to weeks, once search engines recrawl the pages. Local rankings usually take months and depend on competition. Nobody can promise a timeline.
Do reviews affect local rankings?
Google lists review count and score among the things that can influence local results, so genuine reviews and replies help. Never buy or fake reviews.
